The Netflix biography film starts with a young Gianna and we get to see her equation with her family. Coming from a household where the father was cheating on the mother, Gianna didn't have someone to look up to. Once when she had a debate with the man of the family, she even threatened him about his secret. The scene not only tells us how she was rebellious but also tells us that if she sets her mind on something, there isn't anything powerful enough in the world to stop her.

Gianna's father liked to impose his wishes upon her and there came a time when he tried to suppress her talent and interest in singing. Taking her to lawn tennis matches even when she didn't want it is yet another powerful scene. You see her missing one service after another just to make a point to her father that she can't be controlled.

After setting her feet in the free world, the girl knew that success doesn't come easily. Though her songs held deep meanings, she lacked conviction. Hence, she shifted to rock music. In her journey, Gianna made various friends and lovers, and her habit of naming them as per the date they met was unique. The chemistry shared between her and Eleven knew no bounds and even when Gianna was struggling with hallucinations and mania, it was only her family and Eleven taking care of her.

The poor girl pushed too hard that she lost touch with reality. In order to make hits, she pressurized herself beyond the extent of the accident rendered a long-lasting effect. The drugs can't be left out of the picture too and they also shared the blame.

Getting back on her feet, she released one hit after another and broke all the stereotypes surrounding artists. Hence the name of the title, Beautiful Rebel.

In my opinion, this biographical film on Gianna Nannini lacks concept and depth. This being a biography, it should have covered every part of her life. Since they tried to cover the beginning of her journey, her bond with her family, and her mental struggles too, the portrayal wasn't fascinating enough for the audience to connect with it. The biography has been made just for its namesake and there's no soul in it.

The actress playing the lead has done a good job and the emotions she needed to portray on screen did get missed multiple times. Other supporting cast also didn't leave an impression on the audience thus making it a dull watch. If you're in search of good biographies, this one lacks certain criteria that makers forgot to include in their to-do list.

Final Score – [5/10]
