‘The Expanse’ Season 6, the final season in the series is still set to arrive this year in December. As per our latest information, the show is currently set to Premiere on December 31, 2021. However, this is not officially finalized yet, and there are still chances of it moving to January 2022.

Our story was officially confirmed by Amazon on 8th October. The Expanse Season 6 will premiere on December 10 with only six episodes.

‘The Expanse’ Season 6 is currently in post-production, which began in June this year. The post-prod work will officially wrap on November 26 (confirmed) as per the current schedule, and the show will be ready to premiere any day after.

We are also hearing that this season could be the shortest of all in the Expanse series. According to the information we have, Season 6 will conclude in six episodes only, making it the shortest season in the series. The first, fourth, and fifth seasons have 10-episodes each, whereas the second and third seasons were 13-episodes each. Anya Adams, Breck Eisner, and Jeff Woolnough have directed 2 episodes each in the six-episodes final season.

We have tried to confirm this information officially but haven't received any confirmation or denial yet. Anyway, we went ahead and published this article with this information based on a logical reason mentioned below.

Seeing the duration of the season 6 production where it filmed from January 27 to May 7, the whole production wrapped in just 98 days including the holidays and weekends. If the series is going to have 10 episodes (50min to 1hr each), that means each episode with all the COVID regulations have to take only 9.8 days to complete, also the cast and crew would have worked without taking a break. Now, let's compare it to the previous season which took five months (approx. 150 days including holidays and weekends) to complete the production that means 15 days or two weeks on each episode.

So, seeing the above calculation, I have to trust my source that The Expanse season 6 is only going to have six episodes. The maximum you can shoot in that duration is 7-8 episodes and that is also nearly impossible for a sci-fi series with a lot of action scenes.

The sixth season of The Expanse is based on Babylon's Ashes by James S. A. Corey. The next novel in the series (there are four more novels) sees a time jump of 30 years, which made it hard for Amazon to consider for another season. However, there is a possibility of seeing the continuation of the series in near future with a fresh cast. It all depends on the performance of Season 6 and Amazon Studios' decision to keep it alive.

Season 6 cast lead by Steven Strait will return with Wes Chatham, Frankie Adams, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Cara Gee, Dominique Tipper, Keon Alexander, and Jasai Chase Owens. Naren Shankar is the showrunner. The cast will also see some new faces in smaller roles, which include - Redd Ochoa, Matt Birman, Jas Dhanda, Ava Cheung, Gabriel Darku, and David Klein.

The Expanse has recently won Dragon Awards in the Best Science Fiction or Fantasy TV Series category.
