Cate Blanchett Goes Treasure Hunting in ‘Borderlands’ Movie First Trailer

Lionsgate has revealed the first trailer for ‘Borderlands,’ the film adaptation of the video game of the same name. Starring Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Jamie Lee Curtis, ‘Borderlands’ will be released in theaters on August 9, 2024, worldwide.

Cate Blanchett stars as Lilith, an infamous outlaw with a mysterious past who reluctantly comes back to her home planet of Pandora to locate the missing daughter of the universe's most powerful S.O.B., Atlas. Lilith forms an alliance with an unexpected team Roland (Kevin Hart), a former elite mercenary, now desperate for redemption; Tiny Tina, a feral pre-teen demolitionist; Krieg, Tina's musclebound, rhetorically challenged protector; Dr. Patricia Tannis (Jamie Lee Curtis), the scientist with a tenuous grip on sanity; and Claptrap (Jack Black), a persistently wiseass robot. These unlikely heroes must battle alien monsters and dangerous outlaws to find and protect the missing girl, who may hold the key to limitless power. They may hold the fate of the universe in their hands but they'll be fighting for something more: each other.

Directed by Eli Roth, who co-wrote the screenplay with Joe Crombie and based on one of the best-selling videogame franchises of all time, welcome to BORDERLANDS, the movie also stars Ariana Greenblatt as Tiny Tina, Florian Munteanu as Krieg, Haley Bennett, Édgar Ramírez as Atlas, Bobby Lee as Larry, Olivier Richters as Krom, Janina Gavankar as Commander Knoxx, Gina Gershon as Mad Moxxi, Cheyenne Jackson as Jakobs, Charles Babalola as Hammerlock, Benjamin Byron Davis as Marcus, Steven Boyer as Scooter, and Ryann Redmond as Ellie.

Lionsgate presents Borderlands, in association with Media Capital Technologies, an Arad / Picturestart production, a Gearbox Studios / 2K production. Borderlands officially began filming on April 1, 2021, in Budapest, Hungary, during the COVID-19 epidemic. The production was completed on June 22. The cast's first look photographs were revealed on June 4, 2021, with black and white images hiding anything but their outlines.
